Nationwide Bologna Recall Poses Low Risk, USDA Says

Classified as a low-risk Class III recall, the affected bologna products must be discarded or returned over undeclared meat and poultry ingredients

Overview

  • The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has not reported any illnesses and classifies the recall as Class III low risk.
  • Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. is recalling 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna produced between March 20 and June 20 bearing establishment number EST. 5385.
  • Affected brands include Family Tree Bologna Veal, Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna and Fancy Bologna, which contain undeclared pork, beef or chicken.
  • The misbranding was uncovered after a complaint to the USDA Office of Inspector General prompted an FSIS investigation into the undeclared meat and poultry source materials.
  • Consumers and food service establishments nationwide are urged to discard or return the mislabeled bologna and consult a healthcare provider if they have health concerns.
