Nationals Sign Former All-Star Jorge López to One-Year Deal

The veteran reliever joins Washington's bullpen on a $3 million contract with performance bonuses.

Jorge López, a 31-year-old right-handed reliever, signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Washington Nationals, including $500,000 in performance-based incentives.
López split the 2024 MLB season between the Mets and Cubs, posting a 2.89 ERA in 52 relief appearances, with 39 scoreless outings and a 16-inning scoreless streak.
A nine-year MLB veteran and 2022 All-Star, López has a career ERA of 5.25 but has excelled since transitioning to a full-time bullpen role in 2022, recording a 3.74 ERA and 30 saves over 183 innings.
The Nationals designated right-handed pitcher Amos Willingham for assignment to make room for López on the 40-man roster.
López is the latest addition to the Nationals' active offseason, which has included signing several veteran players to bolster their roster.
