National Weather Services Warn of Winds, Heavy Rains and Temperature Swings Across Argentina, Mexico and Galicia

Forecasters urge vigilance over a cold front in Argentina alongside a tropical low off Pacific Mexico.

Overview

  • Argentina’s SMN issued yellow alerts for strong winds in 11 provinces, with Zonda winds forecast for north Mendoza and central San Juan and peak gusts that could exceed 90 km/h in some areas.
  • SMN also placed cordilleran sectors of Chubut and Santa Cruz under a yellow precipitation alert with 30–50 mm in 24 hours and a chance of snow at higher elevations.
  • A cold front is expected to advance across central and northern Argentina on Oct. 4–5, bringing rain and thunderstorms followed by a marked drop in temperatures early next week.
  • Mexico’s SMN/CONAGUA is monitoring a low‑pressure area south of Michoacán and Colima with cyclonic development potential, forecasting intense rains in Guerrero and Oaxaca and very strong rainfall in western and southeastern states.
  • A separate front approaching northeastern Mexico will drive gusts near 60 km/h and early‑morning lows of 0–5°C in mountainous zones, while Galicia’s AEMET‑based local forecasts call for mostly cloudy but largely dry conditions today.
