National Task Force Launches Portal to Tackle Student Suicides

The website’s five tailored surveys kick off a nationwide data-gathering effort ahead of its September interim recommendations.

The National Task Force on Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention has launched its dedicated website in New Delhi today (X/EduMinOfIndia)

Overview

  • The task force unveiled a new website hosting five stakeholder-specific surveys to collect views from students, parents, faculty, mental-health professionals and the public.
  • It has completed pilot visits at Ramjas College, Jamia Millia Islamia, the Indian Institute of Science and Bangalore Medical College to test survey tools and gather initial insights.
  • Region-wise institutional consultations will expand outreach across India’s more than 60,000 higher-education institutions.
  • Chaired by Justice S Ravindra Bhat, the Supreme Court-mandated panel must submit binding interim guidelines by the end of September and a final report by year-end.
  • The task force will analyse survey data, site-visit findings and expert consultations to propose reforms addressing systemic gaps, equity issues and support services.
