National Popcorn Day Returns Jan. 19 With Fandango Sponsoring, Cinemark’s $5 BYOB Deal

The campaign is designed to drive theater visits with localized concession deals.

Overview

  • Cinema United and The Cinema Foundation will coordinate the nationwide promotion on Monday, Jan. 19, with Fandango serving as presenting sponsor.
  • Cinemark will run a two-day Bring Your Own Bucket offer on Jan. 18–19 that lets guests fill any container with popcorn for $5, with a stated cap of 400 ounces and no ticket purchase required.
  • A tie-in with Lowe’s highlights the five-gallon blue bucket, which The Hollywood Reporter says can be filled to about 650 ounces, and Cinemark says liners will be available on request.
  • Cinemark will price all popcorn sizes at $5 during the event and is running an online game and sweepstakes for a chance to win a year of free popcorn through Jan. 19.
  • Participation and deals vary by location; in New York, the BYOB offer is available at Cinemark Tinseltown Rochester and IMAX, and theater websites, AtTheMovies.co, or Fandango list local details.
