National Gallery Singapore Reopens City Hall Wing After Small Fire, Artworks Unharmed

  • A fire was reported around 9.05am on Sept 9 at 1 Saint Andrew's Road, involving an electrical control panel on level one.
  • The onsite Company Emergency Response Team put out the blaze with a dry powder extinguisher before SCDF arrived.
  • All staff and visitors were evacuated as a precaution, and SCDF conducted safety checks afterward.
  • The City Hall Wing and Padang Atrium reopened at 12pm following inspections, while the former Supreme Court Wing remains closed for investigation with reopening expected on Wednesday.
  • No injuries were reported and no artworks were damaged, and some Painting With Light screenings on Sept 9, including the 12.30pm South-east Asia Shorts program, were canceled.
