National Film Registry Adds 25 New Films for 2023

The additions, including 'Terminator 2' and '12 Years a Slave,' bring the total number of films in the registry to 875.

Twenty-five influential films have been added to the National Film Registry, including 'Terminator 2,' '12 Years a Slave,' 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'Home Alone.'
The films are selected each year for their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance and must be at least 10 years old.
With the 2023 additions, the total number of films inducted into the register is 875.
Members of the public can submit films important to them, and this year, people submitted 6,875 different titles.
This year's selections attempted to highlight Americans and their experiences in filmmaking.
