National Donor Day Spurs Musical Drives and Public Campaigns Across Brazil to Boost Blood Supplies

Blood banks report seasonal shortfalls, with regular donors representing only about 1.4%–1.8% of the population.

Overview

  • Bahia’s Hemoba launched a weeklong musical program at its Hemocenter in Salvador, including a Nov. 25 visit by singer Tony Salles, to attract and honor voluntary donors.
  • Petrópolis’ Banco de Sangue Santa Teresa hosted a Nov. 25 musical reception by the Dó Ré Mi group and offered a raffle for a paid trip to Hopi Hari to donors who cite the ensemble, while noting it needs about 70 bags a day but averages roughly 20.
  • Rio de Janeiro’s Secti and Faperj ran the Doe Vida mobilization at Hospital Universitário Pedro Ernesto from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to reinforce stocks, highlighting that one donated bag can benefit up to four patients.
  • GSH staff in Ribeirão Preto reported a recent slide to about 20–25 daily collections against a target of roughly 50, and health teams reiterated standard eligibility rules and the safety of single-use, sterile collection materials.
  • Hemoba reported 190,235 donor candidates and 143,812 bags collected in 2024, and 170,121 candidates with 131,242 bags from January through October 2025, underscoring sustained demand for regular donations.
