• The National Book Foundation unveiled 25 finalists, five each in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translated literature and young people's literature.
• Fiction finalists: Rabih Alameddine, Megha Majumdar, Karen Russell, Ethan Rutherford and Bryan Washington.
• Nonfiction finalists: Omar El Akkad, Julia Ioffe, Yiyun Li, Claudia Rowe and Jordan Thomas.
• Poetry finalists: Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Cathy Linh Che, Tiana Clark, Richard Siken and Patricia Smith.
• Translated literature finalists: Solvej Balle, Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, Anjet Daanje, Hamid Ismailov and Neige Sinno; young people's literature finalists: Kyle Lukoff, Amber McBride, Daniel Nayeri, Hannah V. Sawyerr and Ibi Zoboi.
