Nathan Ruth transferred to NHS mental health unit after stabbing ten prison officers

Prison officers warn his violent conduct in custody risks being unchecked in a hospital-style environment

Overview

  • Ruth was convicted in 2024 for plotting an Isle of Wight Festival terror attack and received a seven-year sentence.
  • Since July 2022 he has improvised weapons and stabbed ten officers while held at Feltham Young Offenders Institute.
  • Following expert clinical assessments, he was moved to Bluebird House in Hampshire, which treats up to 20 young patients.
  • Bluebird House provides sports, board games, quizzes, arts and crafts, film nights and private en-suite bedrooms in a therapeutic setting.
  • Prison sources say he manipulated the system to secure a more comfortable placement, and the Ministry of Justice says he will return to custody once deemed fit.
