NATGRID CEO Commends Top States and Urges Broader Police Engagement

Home Affairs officials have asked states to expand active users, attend dedicated training sessions, leverage recent platform enhancements.

Overview

  • Piyush Goyal highlighted that Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Assam led state adoption with the highest NATGRID usage from January to June 2025.
  • In a July 2025 letter, he urged police chiefs across India to increase the number of active users and deepen engagement with the system’s growing functionalities.
  • NATGRID provides real-time access to more than 20 categories of data, including railways, banking, immigration, financial transactions, narcotics and terror activity, for 11 central and all state agencies.
  • Tamil Nadu achieved a fourfold increase in active user queries in June after targeted outreach and training prompted wider uptake of the platform.
  • These directives follow a post-2019 acceleration under Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to plug the intelligence-sharing gaps exposed by the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
