Natalie Grabow, 80, Becomes Oldest Woman to Finish the Ironman World Championship

Her 16:45:26 Kona finish followed a two-decade progression that began when she learned to swim at 59.

Overview

  • She covered the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run on Kona’s windy, hilly lava-field course within the 17-hour cutoff on a day with more than 60 DNFs among 1,600-plus starters.
  • She was the only competitor in the women’s 80–84 age group at this year’s championship.
  • Cherie Gruenfeld, who set the previous women’s age record at 78 in 2022, greeted her at the finish line.
  • Her daughter, Amy, and coach Michelle Lake of Fiv3 Racing provided on-site support during the race.
  • She has already entered two half-Ironman events for 2026: Eagleman in June and Musselman in July.
