Nat Fyfe to Retire After 16 Seasons, Pursuing First AFL Premiership

Following year-long discussions with family members as well as club officials, he will be available for selection in the remaining fixtures, including any finals.

Overview

  • Nat Fyfe confirmed on August 11 that he will retire at the end of the 2025 AFL season, concluding a 16-year career with Fremantle on a projected 245 games.
  • The decision caps a year of deliberations involving his partner Bridget, coach Justin Longmuir, CEO Simon Garlick and other close advisers.
  • Persistent injuries have limited him to 72 of a possible 128 matches since 2020 and just five appearances this season following a calf tightness scare in June.
  • His decorated résumé includes two Brownlow Medals (2015, 2019), three Doig Medals, three All-Australian selections and 178 career goals, and he was named a Fremantle life member in 2018.
  • He will remain in the side as Fremantle bids for its elusive first AFL premiership in his final season.
