Nashville Therapy K‑9 Sgt. Bo Wins 2025 American Humane Hero Dog Award

The retired mixed-breed credited with comforting Covenant School students will be honored at a Florida gala next spring.

  • American Humane named Sgt. Bo the overall winner of the 15th Annual Hero Dog Awards, recognizing his service, resiliency and love.
  • Sgt. Bo served as a Metro Nashville Police Department therapy dog, offering trauma support to schools after the March 2023 Covenant School shooting.
  • He began as a rescued stray in Florida and trained through the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Paws and Stripes College before teaming with handler Faye Okert.
  • Bo retired after tearing his ACL in January 2025, and Okert retired soon after, though they continue visiting local schools in Nashville.
  • He previously won the Therapy Dog category via public vote and will be recognized alongside other category honorees at the spring ceremony in Florida.
