NASCAR Plans First Military-Base Street Race at San Diego’s Naval Base Coronado

Overview

  • All three national series — Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman Truck — will compete on the new street course during the June 19–21, 2026 weekend.
  • Race venue replaces the Chicago Street Race on the 2026 schedule and marks NASCAR’s debut on an active U.S. military installation.
  • The still-to-be-finalized layout is expected to span about three miles, incorporating base roadways and tarmac sections.
  • U.S. Army veteran Jerrod Sessler highlighted logistical challenges such as a tolled bridge connection and explosive-laden areas on “the strand.”
  • NASCAR will keep its Chicago office and targets a return to the Chicago street race as early as 2027.
