Overview

  • The San Diego race replaces the three-year Chicago street event and will feature the Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series competing on base tarmac over a three-day weekend.
  • Amy Lupo, newly named president of NASCAR San Diego, is leading course development alongside iRacing to finalize a roughly three-mile layout using base streets and apron areas.
  • Organizers are addressing logistical hurdles highlighted by veteran Jerrod Sessler, including a tolled Coronado bridge, explosive-equipped strand sections and local traffic rerouting.
  • Executive Vice President Ben Kennedy said the venue shift honors naval history and salutes service members during the Navy’s 250th birthday weekend.
  • NASCAR will maintain an office in Chicago and is exploring a return to the downtown street circuit as early as 2027.
