The message included a racial slur and expletive though Wallace did not hear it.
NASCAR wants to determine who was responsible and ensure it does not happen again.
XI Racing, Wallace's team, is working with NASCAR on the ongoing investigation.
Wallace, NASCAR's only Black driver, has faced detractors and threats including the false alarm of a noose in his garage stall at Talladega Superspeedway.
