NASCAR Finalizes 2026 Rulebook to Implement Return to Chase Format

The bulletin codifies NASCAR's revived Chase format through rules covering manufacturer entry, safety penalties, eligibility limits, points.

Overview

  • An OEM provisional creates up to four temporary grid spots (37th–40th) for a brand-new manufacturer in the first three events, awarding points but no prize money.
  • Loose lug-nut enforcement in the O’Reilly and Truck series now escalates from loss of pit selection to fines and suspensions, with disqualification if four or more are unsecured.
  • Drivers earning Cup Series points are barred from O’Reilly and Truck Chase races, while participation in those series’ regular-season finales is now permitted.
  • NASCAR clarified waivers so that non–NASCAR-initiated absences start The Chase at 2000 points (2,020 in Trucks and 2,030 in O’Reilly), with NASCAR-initiated absences treated differently.
  • Driver development and entry rules shift as the O’Reilly minimum age drops to 17 for short tracks and road courses, and the Truck Series adds a Past Winner’s Provisional for the 36th spot.
