NASA Sets Artemis II Launch Windows, Targets Early February for Crewed Lunar Flyby

The four-astronaut flight will prove Orion’s critical systems before a future surface mission.

Overview

  • NASA published three launch windows: Jan. 31–Feb. 14 with opportunities on Feb. 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11; Feb. 28–Mar. 13 with opportunities on Mar. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11; and Mar. 27–Apr. 10 with opportunities on Apr. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
  • Artemis II is a roughly 10‑day mission that will circle the Moon on a free‑return trajectory without attempting a landing.
  • The crew comprises Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen.
  • NASA notes launch attempts depend on orbital mechanics, weather, supply logistics and Eastern Range traffic, with up to four tries allowed per window.
  • The agency invited the public to send their names to fly on Orion via a memory card, with registration open through Jan. 21.
