Overview
- NASA's new mobile application, 'Spot the Station', allows users to track the International Space Station (ISS) using augmented reality features, and provides information on optimal viewing times.
- The free, ad-free app not only informs users of when the ISS will pass over their location, but it also details how long the station will be visible, its altitude, and direction of travel.
- Additional features include a countdown to the next possible sighting, a global map of the ISS’s current position, a full-page tracker view, and the ability to enable notifications for every pass overhead.
- The 'Spot the Station' app provides resources including the latest news posts related to crew activity on the ISS, additional readings about the ISS and its history, and a factsheet with general information about the station.
- The application was developed by the International Space Station Program in NASA’s Space Operations Mission Directorate and the Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation. The code for the app is open source, allowing anyone to access, modify, and use it in their own projects.
