Overview
- Italian outlet Calciomercato and multiple outlets reported this week that Napoli have made exploratory contact with Barcelona about a possible January move for Gavi, with discussions said to include a loan with an option to buy and a valuation near €40 million.
- Gavi’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, has issued a clear denial of any negotiations and said: “I have not negotiated with anyone. Gavi is staying.”
- Barcelona hold contractual control of Gavi through 2030 and are reported to be reluctant to sell the La Masia graduate, a position reiterated by club sources and transfer analysts.
- The transfer talk follows a season in which Gavi has seen sharply reduced minutes and few starts as he competes with Pedri, Rodri, Fermin López, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo and Marc Bernal for midfield places.
- Other clubs, including Aston Villa and previously Manchester United, have been linked to Gavi and the coming January window — plus any changes in squad availability such as Rodri’s injury status — will likely determine whether reported interest turns into formal offers.
