  • Napoleon Solo won the Preakness at Laurel Park on Saturday by 1 1/4 lengths over Iron Honor, giving jockey Paco Lopez and trainer Chad Summers their first Triple Crown victories.
  • Lopez tracked early leader Taj Mahal, took over near the top of the stretch, and held off Iron Honor, with Chip Honcho third and a final time of 1:58.69.
  • The race moved for one year to Laurel Park during Pimlico’s rebuild, which capped on-site attendance at about 4,800 and featured a shorter stretch that rewarded pace-tracking trips.
  • The field drew 14 starters, the largest since 2011, with few Kentucky Derby runners as Derby winner Golden Tempo skipped Baltimore and is expected to run the Belmont.
  • Summers said Napoleon Solo will bypass the Belmont and likely target the Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park, keeping the Derby and Preakness winners on separate paths next month.
