Napa DA Charges Van Driver With Murder in Crash That Killed Six Farmworkers

Prosecutors say his prior DUI convictions plus a suspended license meet California’s Watson implied-malice standard.

Overview

  • Norberto Celerino, 53, of Stockton was charged Tuesday after a Toyota Sienna left Pope Valley Road on Sept. 7 and struck a tree, killing six passengers and injuring two people.
  • He faces six counts of murder, six counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and a felony DUI causing injury with prior convictions, according to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office.
  • Authorities and court records show DUI convictions in 2020 and 2024 plus an earlier 2010 conviction that cannot enhance current charges, as well as a suspended license and active probation.
  • Investigators believe all six men who died were Stockton-area farmworkers; two victims were identified as Loreto Ricardo Hernandez, 42, and Fernando Silverio, 34, while others are pending confirmation.
  • Celerino remains hospitalized and will be booked upon release as investigators continue identifying victims and reviewing evidence from the crash scene.
