Naomi Osaka Advances to Second Round at China Open

Osaka defeats Lucia Bronzetti with Patrick Mouratoglou courtside, marking her first match since parting with coach Wim Fissette.

Overview

Naomi Osaka secured a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Italy's Lucia Bronzetti in the first round of the WTA 1000 China Open.
Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, is now ranked 73rd in the world and will face 21st seed Yulia Putintseva in the next round.
Serena Williams' former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, was seen courtside, though no official announcement has been made about their partnership.
Osaka recently split from her long-time coach Wim Fissette and has struggled to find consistent form since returning to the tour in January.
The China Open marks a significant tournament for Osaka, who previously won the event in 2019 before the pandemic and WTA boycott halted play in China.
