Fundamentum Launches Rs 2,200 Crore Third Fund as Nilekani Steps Back From GP Role

Nilekani's anchor pledge enhances Fund III's standing in India's growing market for later-stage startup capital.

Overview

  • Fundamentum publicly launched its third fund on Thursday with a target of Rs 2,200 crore and a Rs 400 crore greenshoe option and has already started deploying capital.
  • Nandan Nilekani relinquished the general partner title but is the fund's anchor investor, has made his largest-ever VC commitment, and will continue to advise and mentor portfolio founders.
  • Operational leadership for Fund III rests with four general partners — Sanjeev Aggarwal, Prateek Jain, Mayank Kachhwaha and CFO Sanjay Chaturvedi — after a recent reshuffle.
  • The fund will focus on Series B growth-stage checks of about Rs 100–150 crore into consumer tech, fintech and AI-native or AI-enabled businesses and will keep capital reserved for follow-on rounds.
  • Fundamentum expects to close fundraising over the next 12 to 18 months with roughly half the capital from international investors and the rest from Indian institutions and founders and is taking a cautious stance on deep tech until clear commercial adoption appears.
