Namo Bharat Nears Delhi-Meerut Corridor Launch, Proposes New NCR Rail Link

Trial runs are underway on the final stretch of the 82-km Delhi-Meerut corridor, set for full operation by June-end, while a new 60-km Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida corridor awaits Haryana's approval.

Overview

  • The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, India's first Regional Rapid Transit System, is in its final testing phase, with full operations expected by the end of June 2025.
  • The corridor will enable a 45-minute journey between Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut's Modipuram, with over one crore commuters already served on operational sections.
  • Trial runs have also begun for the Meerut Metro, a 23-km intra-city system sharing infrastructure with Namo Bharat trains, a first for India.
  • NCRTC has proposed a new 60-km high-speed RRTS corridor connecting Gurugram, Faridabad, and Noida, with trains designed to run at 180 km/h and an estimated cost of ₹15,000 crore.
  • Approval from the Haryana government on the route alignment is awaited to begin work on the detailed project report for the new corridor.
