NALSA Launches Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana to Aid Defence Families

Pilot legal aid clinics have opened to serve defence personnel’s families in challenging postings at the start of a phased national rollout

  • Justice Surya Kant unveiled the Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana on Kargil Vijay Diwas, with pilot clinics inaugurated in Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh) and Kohima (Nagaland)
  • The scheme will establish free legal aid clinics within Kendriya, Rajya and Zila Sainik Boards across India in collaboration with the defence ministry
  • Serving and retired Army and paramilitary personnel—including BSF, CRPF and ITBP—and their dependents are eligible for proactive assistance in property, domestic and service-related disputes
  • Ex-servicemen with legal qualifications will serve as legal aid counsels while soldier family members will act as para-legal volunteers at these clinics
  • Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has called for dedicated mechanisms to prioritise and fast-track court cases involving defence personnel
