Najmul Hossain Shanto has been appointed as the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team across all formats for one year, replacing Shakib Al Hasan due to his vision problem.
Shakib Al Hasan, who has been suffering from a retinal condition in his left eye, was considered the first choice for captaincy but his health issues led to the decision to appoint Shanto.
Shanto's leadership has been praised for his clear communication and tactical acumen, particularly during the team's tour of New Zealand.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has also made changes to the selection committee, appointing Gazi Ashraf Hossain as the chief selector.
Shanto's first assignment as captain will be the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, followed by the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and United States in June.
