Naidu to Release HNSS Waters at Kuppam Today

The lift‑irrigation scheme delivers Krishna floodwaters to Rayalaseema to ease chronic scarcity.

Overview

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to formally release Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi waters at the Paramasamudram tank near Kuppam on August 30.
  • The Kuppam branch has begun receiving Phase II flows, with officials saying it will stabilise 6,300 acres through 110 tanks and supply drinking water to more than five lakh people across eight mandals.
  • HNSS is designed to draw up to 40 tmcft of Krishna floodwater via a 554‑km main canal with 12 major lifts and about 672 MW of pumping capacity.
  • Water released from the Malyala lift point on July 17 has progressed through the widened main canal to reach the Kuppam branch as part of the current operational push.
  • Officials said more than 400 irrigation tanks in 19 Assembly constituencies are slated to receive around 13 tmcft this season, while branches at Madakasira, Hindupur and Penukonda are yet to get water due to the focus on Kuppam.
