Overview

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released Krishna river water into the expanded Phase-1 canal at Malyala Pumping Station on July 17, initiating deliveries to Rayalaseema
  • The Water Resources Department widened 216 km of canal from Malyala to Jeedipalli in 100 days at a cost of ₹696 crore to boost capacity by 1,600 cusecs
  • The enlarged channel will feed the Jeedipalli Reservoir and refill local ponds such as Jeedipalli, Krishnagiri, Pattikonda and Gajuladinne across four Rayalaseema districts
  • Phase 2 works are scheduled for completion by month’s end to begin water supply through the Punganur and Kuppam branch canals
  • The upgrades aim to enable full use of the project’s 40 TMC floodwater entitlement to strengthen irrigation across 6 lakh acres and drinking supplies for 33 lakh residents
