Naidu Launches ₹15,000-a-Year ‘Auto Drivers’ Sevalo’ for 2.9 Lakh Drivers

Officials say the aid responds to income losses from free bus travel and marks a 50% rise over the previous ₹10,000 payment.

Overview

  • Launching the programme in Vijayawada, the state said roughly ₹436 crore has been earmarked for 2025–26 with credits to go directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
  • Eligibility is limited to Andhra Pradesh residents who own and drive autorickshaws, taxis or maxi cabs with valid licence, Aadhaar, ration card and vehicle registration, excluding drivers of rented vehicles.
  • The beneficiary list was published on September 24, with eligibility checks available via the GSWS-NBM portal or at Gram and Ward Secretariats.
  • A WhatsApp-based grievance system has been set up to add any eligible drivers missing from the list and to resolve payment issues.
  • Of about 2.90 lakh identified beneficiaries, 2,25,621 are auto drivers, 20,072 are motor cab drivers and 6,400 are maxi cab drivers, with Visakhapatnam having the most at 22,955; the government has also cut green tax on older vehicles and announced road improvements.
