Nagaland Launches 51 Permanent School Projects to Strengthen Education

Community ownership is central to Rio’s plan to maintain facilities with the goal of reintegrating 100,000 out-of-school children by 2030

  • Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio virtually inaugurated 51 infrastructure projects under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, comprising 15 new school buildings, expanded classrooms in 17 schools, 18 teachers’ quarters and one residential hostel.
  • Rio urged a move away from temporary structures toward permanent, quality construction to ensure long-term educational progress across Nagaland’s difficult terrain.
  • State Mission Director L. Jamithung Lotha highlighted integration of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Teacher Education schemes under NEP 2020 to guide interventions in infrastructure, learning resources and teacher training.
  • Advisor Kekhrielhoulie Yhome reported that of 16,087 rooms in government schools, 13,767 are used for instruction and reaffirmed the department’s target to bring back 100,000 out-of-school children by 2030.
  • Rio expressed gratitude to the central government for its support and emphasized that community participation is vital for proper maintenance and effective utilization of new educational facilities.
