Education and sports get a major boost in Nagaland with new infrastructure projects

Overview

  • The June 4 rollout extended the NECTAR programme, following December’s launch of seven complexes, by virtually laying foundations for nine new LSCs and opening six sports venues.
  • Funded by the World Bank, the total investment in 16 Lighthouse School Complexes is estimated at Rs198.57 crore and aims to create academic hubs in every district.
  • New school sites in Chumoukedima, Phek, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Shamator, Noklak, Longleng, Mokokchung and Dimapur will serve socio-economically disadvantaged and special-needs learners.
  • Inaugurated sports projects include a wrestling centre in Dimapur, a mini stadium in Wokha and a multidisciplinary stadium in Shamator under central schemes like the North Eastern Council.
  • Officials say the upgraded infrastructure will enhance learning quality and nurture local talent in academics and athletics.
