NABU Releases 'Midas' Tapes in Energy Graft Probe as SAPO Opens Leak Inquiry

The recordings outline kickback demands of 10–15% on Energoatom contracts, investigators say.

Overview

  • The 15-month operation included more than 70 searches and over 1,000 hours of audio compiled by NABU and SAPO.
  • Portions of the tapes feature interlocutors using the codenames Rocket, Tenor and Karlson discussing kickbacks, energy facility projects and prospective personnel changes.
  • Law enforcement sources said detectives searched the premises of businessman and Kvartal 95 co-owner Tymur Mindich and Justice Minister German Galushchenko on November 10.
  • Ukrainska Pravda reported that Mindich left Ukraine hours before the search of his home.
  • SAPO chief Oleksandr Klymenko ordered an internal probe into a possible leak of pre-trial materials, while President Zelensky called for convictions and the energy minister pledged a policy response once findings are in.
