Overview
- The National Assembly standing committee met in Karachi on Tuesday to press federal officials over what lawmakers called inadequate PSDP allocations for Sindh and to demand urgent briefings from the NHA and KPT.
- Federal Secretary Awais Sumra told the committee Rs192 billion was earmarked for Sindh from the Rs1 trillion PSDP but said fiscal limits and reduced releases have constrained implementation and forced a turn to international financing.
- Lawmakers singled out the long-delayed Hyderabad–Sukkur M-6 motorway and asked the committee chairman to convey their concerns to the prime minister and summon communications and NHA officials for answers.
- Officials briefed the panel that the Greater Karachi K-IV water scheme’s first phase is now expected by December 2029 because of coordination, legal issues with WAPDA and a World Bank-linked augmentation component, and that TP-5 of the S-III sewerage plan has not yet started, blocking S-III from becoming operational.
- The committee formed a subcommittee under Farhan Chishti to consult stakeholders, and reviewed five federal-provincial road projects worth Rs140.916 billion targeted for completion by June 2027 while warning the delays widen Sindh’s development gap and strain urban services and trade.
