N33 Fully Closed Between Assen and Siddeburen This Weekend

Rijkswaterstaat says the full shutdown is needed so crews can repair verges and guardrails and inspect bridges and viaducts

Overview

  • The N33 will be fully closed in both directions this weekend from 19:00 Friday to 05:00 Monday between Assen and Siddeburen to allow work that cannot be done with traffic present.
  • Rijkswaterstaat says the work includes repairing verges, fixing sections of guardrail and carrying out detailed inspections of bridges and viaducts that require a full road closure.
  • Drivers from Assen to Delfzijl and the Eemshaven should follow the detour via the A28, A7 and N362 and the return route via the N387, A7 and A28, with longer travel times expected.
  • Separately, the N33 section between Veendam and Siddeburen remains closed until the morning of 17 June for asphalt milling, relaying and re-marking, with noise-reducing asphalt being laid on many stretches.
  • Rijkswaterstaat says summer is the peak season for roadworks so several nearby provincial roads will see staged closures through June and July, and motorists should follow roadside signs and expect staggered or overlapping works.
