Overview
- Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar instructed the Mysuru City Corporation and city police to remove all unauthorised flex posters and publicity materials for the Dasara period and allowed only official Dasara publicity.
- The MCC issued a notification limiting the ban to the festival period, made the restriction effective from Oct. 5, set a voluntary removal deadline of Oct. 7, and warned of removal and prosecution under the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981.
- Shivakumar emphasised that political publicity must not feature in celebrations and told officials that even posters bearing his own photograph were not to be allowed during Dasara.
- Residents and civic groups have pressed for the temporary measure to become a permanent, citywide ban on flex boards and banners to protect Mysuru’s heritage streetscape.
- MCC officials warn enforcement may be difficult because past removal teams have faced political pressure and harassment from supporters, a problem that could blunt the drive and prompt renewed calls for stronger, long‑term rules.
