Myeloma Survivor Deb Gascoyne Nears £250,000 Goal, Plans LondonParis Ride in May

The 50-year-old remains on a maintenance regimen begun in December 2024 after a relapse, following earlier treatment that included two stem-cell transplants.

Overview

  • An opportunistic blood test in July 2009 detected smouldering myeloma after she visited her GP for a persistent sore throat.
  • Her first stem-cell transplant in July 2011 was followed by maintenance chemotherapy that kept her in partial remission for about eight years.
  • She relapsed in 2019, underwent a second transplant in September 2020, relapsed again in November 2024, and started a new maintenance treatment the next month.
  • Gascoyne has raised about £248,100 for Myeloma UK and is preparing a London-to-Paris cycling challenge in May to reach her £250,000 target, with relatives, clinicians and fellow patients set to join.
  • Myeloma UK describes the disease as relapsing-remitting, and Gascoyne continues advocacy urging people to listen to their bodies as she prioritizes time with her family.
