Myanmar’s Figurehead President Myint Swe Dies, State Funeral Announced

His death at a Naypyitaw military hospital underscores Min Aung Hlaing’s continued hold on power with elections scheduled for December.

  • Myint Swe passed away at 8:28 a.m. local time on August 7 at the No. 2 Defense Services General Hospital in Naypyitaw after receiving intensive care since July 24 for neurological and other ailments.
