A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck near Meiktila, central Myanmar, early on April 13, 2025, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicenter was located in Wundwin township, roughly midway between Mandalay and Naypyitaw, at a depth of 7.7 km (4.8 miles).
No major damage or casualties have been reported from the aftershock, though minor structural impacts were noted in some areas.
This tremor is one of the strongest aftershocks following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, which caused 3,649 deaths and over 5,000 injuries.
Relief efforts remain strained due to extensive infrastructure damage, disrupted agricultural production, and limited access to accurate information under military government control.
