México Canta Semifinals Begin, Blue Malboro First to Advance

Overview

  • Weekly semifinals kicked off on August 17 with broadcasts every Sunday from 19:00 to 21:00 across public TV and radio networks.
  • In the U.S. East regional show in Chicago, eight performers competed and Guanajuato-born rapper Blue Malboro secured the inaugural finalist spot.
  • The jury of Regina Orozco, Mónica Vélez, América Sierra and Fabián Rincón will oversee six weeks of regional rounds across U.S. and Mexican zones.
  • Organized by the Secretaría de Cultura in collaboration with the Consejo Mexicano de la Música, México Canta is part of a strategy to promote peace and combat addictions through cultural programming.
  • Semifinalists receive professional coaching in partner studios and top finishers will earn album recording contracts ahead of the October 5 grand final at Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris.
