Overview
- Prosecutors in Vesoul opened a homicide investigation after a man’s torso and lower body were found on the Saône at Fédry, covered in a white substance.
 - The victim, estimated at 40 to 60 years old, had a burn on the back and multiple wounds to the skull, a hand, the cervical area and the trunk, and was wearing only underwear.
 - The prosecutor said the death appeared recent, occurring less than 24 hours before discovery.
 - An autopsy was conducted Monday and analyses of the white substance are pending; regional outlets have suggested it could be quicklime, a characterization not confirmed by authorities.
 - The body was discovered by a fisherman who alerted Mayor Jean Roblet before gendarmes responded, and investigators from Haute‑Saône and the Besançon research unit are interviewing residents near the secluded site about 2 kilometers from the village center.
