Muslim State Lawmaker Attacked Following Eid al-Adha Prayers

Connecticut State Representative Maryam Khan, who wears a hijab, was assaulted after leaving an Eid prayer service with her family.
The attacker, Andrey Desmond, made obscene and vulgar comments before grabbing, hitting, and throwing Khan to the ground.
Desmond has a history of mental health issues and was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Bystanders restrained Desmond until police arrived and arrested him.
Advocacy groups are calling for an investigation into whether the attack was motivated by religious bias and are asking police to improve security at Muslim community events.
