Museum of Broadcast Communications to Reopen Oct. 24 With Downtown Pop-Up on Carson and Late Night

Marquee exhibits will reintroduce the collection, exploring late-night’s future.

Overview

  • The museum will reopen as a temporary pop-up at 440 W. Randolph St. on Oct. 24, 2025, and will operate through January 2027.
  • Two exhibitions will anchor the space: The Johnny Carson Centennial and a 75-year survey titled The Evolution of Late Night Television.
  • The Carson exhibit includes rare artifacts, loans from the Johnny Carson Gallery, portions of his original curtain, a replica stage entrance, and exclusive video from Carson Entertainment Group and Shout! Factory.
  • The late-night survey spans early pioneers through contemporary hosts and examines the genre’s shift to streaming, podcasts, and viral clips, as CBS has announced it will cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
  • An Oct. 23 opening benefit coincides with Carson’s 100th birthday and supports the museum’s mission; public hours run Wednesday through Sunday with tiered admission pricing.
