- At an Aug. 27 event at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu presented the President’s Cup to NorthEast United FC.
- The trophy was handed to club owner John Abraham, captain Redeem Tlang and CEO Mandar Tamhane during the felicitation.
- NEUFC retained the 134th Durand Cup with a 6–1 win over Diamond Harbour FC at Kolkata’s VYBK, becoming the first team in over three decades to defend the title.
- Senior military dignitaries, including the vice chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, attended alongside members of the Durand Football Tournament Society and the Organising Committee.
- The President’s Cup, instituted in 1956 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, is one of three trophies awarded to the Durand champions, and John Abraham publicly thanked the Armed Forces and Eastern Command for stewarding the tournament.
