Murder Probe Opens After 85-Year-Old Patient Dies Following Charing Cross Hospital Assault

Detectives are coordinating with prosecutors ahead of a 17 October Isleworth Crown Court hearing for the 70-year-old suspect.

  • Met Police launched a homicide investigation after Andrew Farmer, 85, died on 25 September from injuries sustained at Charing Cross Hospital.
  • Officers were called on 18 September to reports that one patient had assaulted another inside the Hammersmith facility.
  • Anatoliy Podmazko, 70, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and charged on 20 September with grievous bodily harm.
  • He remains due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 17 October as detectives continue inquiries with the Crown Prosecution Service.
  • Farmer’s family has been notified and is receiving support, and his partner, Paul Wrigley, issued a public tribute.
