Murder Inquiry Opened After 76-Year-Old Dies From Ponders End Post Office Attack

A previously charged suspect remains in custody pending a 10 December crown court appearance.

  • Jalal Khan, 76, died in hospital on 19 November after being assaulted and robbed while withdrawing cash outside the Ponders End Post Office on 30 October.
  • Detectives have launched a murder investigation after officers found him with severe head injuries just after 11am on High Street in Ponders End.
  • Jaesis Boatswain, 40, of Swan Walk, Enfield, had earlier been charged with grievous bodily harm, assault, robbery and threatening a person with a knife.
  • He appeared at Highbury Magistrates’ Court on 6 November, was remanded into custody, and is due at Wood Green Crown Court on 10 December as prosecutors reassess the charges.
  • Police are collecting CCTV and doorbell footage and appealing for witnesses, while the victim’s family receive specialist support and neighbours pay tribute to his character.
