Murder Case Proceeds Against Kierre Williams for Nebraska Priest's Killing

Williams, with no apparent connection to the victim, was found on top of the fatally stabbed Rev. Stephen Gutgsell in his home next to the church.

  • Kierre Williams, 43, is being held without bond as the murder case against him for the fatal stabbing of Rev. Stephen Gutgsell in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, proceeds.
  • There appears to be no connection between Williams and Gutgsell, who was found dead in his home next to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
  • Williams was found lying on top of the badly wounded priest, and a broken knife was found in the middle of a blood stain on the floor of Gutgsell's bedroom.
  • Williams has an extensive criminal history with several felony convictions in other states and was working in a meatpacking plant in Sioux City, Iowa, at the time of the killing.
  • The Archdiocese of Omaha has announced that the church Gutgsell served will now share a priest with two other churches in nearby small towns.
