Murcia Posts Spain’s Lowest Inflation as Canary Islands Extend Five-Month Rise

INE’s final October data highlight housing and hospitality as key drivers, with clothing the only major category in decline.

  • Murcia’s CPI eased to 2.2% year on year in October, down 0.2 points from September, the lowest rate among Spain’s regions.
  • The Canary Islands’ CPI reached 2.5% year on year, up 0.3 points for a fifth consecutive monthly increase, with prices up 0.9% month on month and 1.9% year to date.
  • National inflation stood at 3.1% year on year in October, with Murcia 0.9 points below that benchmark.
  • Baleares and Madrid recorded the highest regional rates at 3.6%, while Canarias (2.5%) and Catalonia (2.6%) were among the lowest after Murcia.
  • Housing and energy along with restaurants and hotels posted the strongest gains in both regions, while clothing and footwear fell (Murcia −4.5%; Canarias −0.5%), and Murcia’s food basket was 1.8% higher than a year earlier.
