Munich’s Föhringer Ring to Shut Jan. 7–24 for Tree-Clearing, Bridge and Road Upgrade

Escorted passage keeps buses and emergency services moving, with cars on signed detours.

Overview

  • Authorities plan a full closure from January 7 to 24 in two stages: A9 to M13 from Jan. 7–18, then M13 to State Road 2340 from Jan. 19–24.
  • Detours route traffic via State Road 2350, B471 and State Road 2340, with Kreisstraße M13 signed for eastbound use in phase one and westbound use in phase two.
  • Scheduled buses and emergency vehicles may pass through the work zone under the direction of security marshals.
  • The parallel rail line will be closed on three Sundays—January 4, 11 and 18—during the works period.
  • The project prepares a four-lane upgrade and renewal of the 1960s Isar bridge on a 1.9 km stretch between Freimann and Unterföhring, with limited tree removal, reuse of felled wood for Englischer Garten heating, compensatory planting, an estimated cost of about €75.9 million and possible weather-related schedule changes.
